Semiahmoo Spit

  • Semiahmoo County Park (map)

Please join us for this monthly field trip at Whatcom County’s only designated Important Bird Area. It is appropriate for birders of all skill levels and beginning birders will find experienced individuals willing to share their knowledge and experience. We often find 40 to 50 species on the waters of Drayton Harbor and Semiahmoo Bay including many ducks species, several loon and grebe species, shorebirds, gulls and cormorants plus numbers of passerines on the spit itself. March is usually an exciting month with numbers of birds building as we advance toward spring.  This trip is cosponsored by NCAS and Whatcom County Parks. The walking is easy but weather conditions can be harsh this time of year. Please check the weather and dress accordingly.
