Meet at Semiahmoo County Park parking lot.
As the fall season gets under way, we begin to find more wintering waterfowl arriving on Semiahmoo Bay and Drayton Harbor. Migrant shorebirds have been frequenting the area for the past two months and, hopefully, a few will fly in off on Boundary Bay and make an appearance. We can expect to find common loons, and possibly another species of loon or maybe two, a grebe species or two, scoters, scaup and other early arrivals among wintering ducks plus a few of our local dabblers. Of course there will be Canada geese around and, with some luck, we might find some early brant. Expect to see great blue herons and possibly a few bald eagles, a variety of gull species and maybe we will be able to locate a few migrants passerines and local residents moving along the spit. Even with all the obvious changes, the Semiahmoo area is still outstanding habitat
This trip is meant for birders of varied capabilities but we do definitely invite beginning birders to join us. If you’re new to birding, please let us know and do ask for assistance. We will do our best to show you the birds that are present. Hope to see you there.
