Semiahmoo Spit

Meet at Semiahmoo Park parking lot, near the cannery museum.

Come enjoy one of the best winter birding destinations in the entire state of Washington! The nutrient rich waters of Drayton Harbor and Semiahmoo Bay are a winter haven for thousands of waterfowl of all varieties. Three types of loons and scoters are regularly seen here, as are specialties such as harlequin duck, long-tailed duck, and brant. Other common species include bald eagles, goldeneyes, kingfishers, great-blue herons, grebes, mergansers, turnstones, cormorants, sparrows, and various other species of ducks. The possibilities are endless at Semiahmoo!

The pathways along the spit are mostly flat with some trails being fully paved and others being gravel or dirt. The spit is over a mile long, and we will ideally walk as much of it as we can, so be prepared to walk a bit. All experience levels are welcome!
