Semiahmoo Spit

Meet at Semiahmoo County Park parking lot.

If you would like to know who spends the winter on our marine shorelines, a trip to Semiahmoo is an excellent way to learn. It is almost always a worthwhile birding experience. We often find three species of loons, and three of grebes, two and sometimes three species of scoters and shorebirds as well as mergansers, brant, goldeneyes, kingfishers, cormorants, eagles and many species of passerines among others. And there is often a surprise or two.

Whether you are an experienced or beginning birder, please join our amiable group of people who are willing to share their knowledge. Check out what is happening this winter on the eelgrass beds of Semiahmoo Bay and Drayton Harbor, Whatcom County’s Audubon designated Important Bird Area.
