October 24, 7:00pm NCAS Membership Meeting (In Person)
Join us for a presentation by Michael Feerer, Executive Director of Whatcom Million Trees Project showing major tree canopy losses locally that impact migratory and non-migratory birds -- and all of us. You'll learn about WMTP's wide array of projects and initiatives to protect thousands of urban and watershed trees. Michael will illustrate how Audubon members and other concerned citizens can get involved in the essential hands-on efforts and advocacy to save our mature tree canopy.
The Whatcom Million Trees Project is a nonprofit formed in 2021 with the goal to plant thousands of young native tree seedlings in Whatcom County to build a brighter future for everyone in this region. Although these young trees won’t add significant climate/biodiversity benefits for a few decades, tree-planting is a wonderful hands-on way to build hope and empowerment in everyone. Their goal also includes tree protection along with tree planting in order to conserve mature, diverse, naturally-regenerated forests to address the climate and biodiversity crises NOW.
