Meet at Semiahmoo County Park parking lot.
November should be the month that more of our northern breeding species return to Drayton Harbor and Semiahmoo Bay for the winter. Goldeneyes, buffleheads, mergansers, brant and long-tailed ducks should be joining the cormorants, grebes, loons, scaups and scoters already present. We can also expect to see a bald eagle or two, great-blue herons, gulls, a few shorebird species, woodpeckers, and probably an Anna’s hummingbird or two. Resident passerines such as house finches, white-crowned and golden-crowned sparrows are common along with other resident species like juncos, chickadees. We often find about fifty bird species on the spit on a good day.
Please join our amicable group of birders for a pleasant few hours at our local, Audubon designated, Important Bird Area. New birders are welcome! We usually walk two to three miles along the spit at a leisurely pace, depending on the weather, stopping to observe. Those who may be challenged by this much walking are welcome to drive and rejoin the group along the way.
