Status and Trends of Wintering Marine Birds in the Marine Waters of Washington State 1993-2023 - Joe Evenson

  • Whatcom Museum Rotunda Room (In Person Only) 121 Prospect Street Bellingham, WA, 98225 United States (map)

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has been conducting the annual Puget Sound Ecosystem Monitoring Program winter aerial surveys since 1993 to monitor wintering abundance and trends of marine avian species and selected marine mammals. Surveys are flown each year by a crew of experienced WDFW biologists from early December until the surveys are complete, which is usually by the end of January. The surveys are designed to occur during midwinter, when sea ducks and other marine birds are least likely to be migrating. Join us in welcoming Joe Evenson, the principal investigator of the survey. He will be presenting on the results of this long-term monitoring effort as well as on other sea duck demographic and research studies WDFW has been working on.
